Filled Under: Rant
Over and over, again and again. You come through the door…
…and I’m stumblin’ in again.
It’s a B E A utiful Friday outside, I know because I can see it through the window. This past week, in spite of it being shortened thanks to Memorial Day, has felt like it’s been dragging on. Now that today is here, however, I feel physically refreshed. Of course this could be entirely due to the fact that I was able to get some extra sleep this morning.
You’ll be the voice in my head
It’s late and I should be asleep. I’m not just saying that. It’s just that I was thinking earlier and I can’t stop. I’ve made a change in what has become a large part of my life and left House of Elders.
Don’t try to fix me, I’m not broken…
Hello, I am your mind giving you someone to talk to. Hello.
Unless of course it really WAS broken. Which it was. and after several days of no time to try and fix it, I tried, but to no avail. My “Sidebar” was stuck as part of the center column and I couldn’t find the code to return it to where it should be. I could move it above, below, and even amongst the posts on the main page, but not on the right, outside the white center column of this “Elegant Brit (b)” theme I love so much. Even worse, it was fine on some areas of the site, such as when one opened an individual post. Comparing the different php pages lead me to nothing. I looked at all the CSS. I even read the code generated on the client! My brain was ready to explode and I was getting angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.
Four flippin’ hours later, I’ve manually uninstalled WordPress, deleted my database, cleared the tables 6-7 times, edited my database tables, panicked, had a few drinks, installed 2 programs, restored my database information 5-6 times, explored tar balls and moved a cumulative 30-40MB of data back and forth through cyberspace, all to get back to where I was minus ONE problem. I can say that I have finally fixed the sidebar…sort of. I didn’t technically fix it, since I never found out what was wrong and undo it. I just rebuilt my blog from the ground up from various broken backup files and a hand written list of plugins versions.
…are always bouncing from the left and to the right…
my vacuum has been wonderful. it works great, cleans hair from th furniture and rugs very well. it also gives me a good idea of how much Geordi really sheds. When I vacuum the couch, the canister fills up. this is about 2 weeks worth, and mostly fine orange hair (geordi). when I do the floors, it takes 3-4 empties to do 2 rooms and a closet, again mostly geordi hair over 2 weeks.
Yeah, nothing more exciting that I feel to be blogworthy. And this only barely made my cut.
Interesting visual of behind the scenes behavior
I have been increasing the size of my already-to-large Music library to assist my sister in getting things onto her new iPod Nano and I ended up with some .flac files…ugh.
I know it’s nice to have a format that’s loss-less, but with a large digital library, who can stand a +25MB file when you can get a good-enough-for-most-people quality with a file size of only 2-6MB depending. How may people can actually hear the difference in CD quality versus 190kps? If you’re that picky, then by all means, use .Flac or another loss-less, but if you’re going to share, why not include .mp3 or something else that’s an actual standard? Oh, wait, I know why, you don’t have any free hard drive space because every CD you have takes up 250MB or more!
If my entire library was .flac, it would be 360GB…is that reasonable? In my opinion, no. My mixed CD’s play in the car just as good as the originals from which I ripped them.
But what I’m really posting about is a program I found to resolve the above elitist audiophile situation I find myself in. The program is dBpoweramp Batch Converter and can be found at: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/.
What I found interesting is that it actually visualized how it was multitasking my conversion process across my processor cores.
Say what you want about me having Miley Cyrus on my PC, I’ve already explained that. Instead, notice that it visualized that it was converting 4 songs simultaneously, one per core. Splitting things across the cores like this is not something new to me, but visualizing what it’s doing in this manner is a new behavior. I like it. That’s all I really wanted to post about.
THANK YOU…GOODNIGHT….:-)
Pleaser
I aim to please as an initial reaction. It’s who I am. Those of you whom were previously unaware of this, now you have been made aware. Those whom were aware and used it to your advantage, know that I do reflect on everything I do and if you are found to have been using me, your time will come.
You are reading my post. You are on my friends list.
I am tired of lame excuses.
If you are on my friends list, I hope you are actually my friend.
I am hungry. I get cranky when I am hungry.
If you see that someone missing from my “friend of” list, please have them check and add me.
I do not make many idle threats. If you feel threatened, then you probably are. If you are not sure, then you probably are not.
I long for a grapefruit!
