Filled Under: Mere Thoughts

Over and over, again and again. You come through the door…

…and I’m stumblin’ in again.

It’s a B E A utiful Friday outside, I know because I can see it through the window. This past week, in spite of it being shortened thanks to Memorial Day, has felt like it’s been dragging on. Now that today is here, however, I feel physically refreshed. Of course this could be entirely due to the fact that I was able to get some extra sleep this morning.

So desperately I sing to thee of love.

More or less a post just to post. I’ve been busy lately, and now I’m suffering from a wave of apathy. My body’s tired, but my mind is erratic and active. When I try to sleep, I can’t stop thinking, but when I’m trying to be awake, my body doesn’t want to do anything.
I got my new bike mostly assembled last night. I need to properly mount my rack on the back, but for now it will do. It looks good with everything on it.
I’ve been car shopping this past 2 weeks and I’ve got one picked out so long as the guy turns out to not be shady. I’m pretty sure he isn’t, but he does give me that vibe. I haven’t committed to anything and I will definitely not sign anything until I’ve had a chance to investigate further.

That is all.

…brings you back. On that you can rely.

Interesting visual of behind the scenes behavior

I have been increasing the size of my already-to-large Music library to assist my sister in getting things onto her new iPod Nano and I ended up with some .flac files…ugh.
I know it’s nice to have a format that’s loss-less, but with a large digital library, who can stand a +25MB file when you can get a good-enough-for-most-people quality with a file size of only 2-6MB depending. How may people can actually hear the difference in CD quality versus 190kps? If you’re that picky, then by all means, use .Flac or another loss-less, but if you’re going to share, why not include .mp3 or something else that’s an actual standard? Oh, wait, I know why, you don’t have any free hard drive space because every CD you have takes up 250MB or more!
If my entire library was .flac, it would be 360GB…is that reasonable? In my opinion, no. My mixed CD’s play in the car just as good as the originals from which I ripped them.

But what I’m really posting about is a program I found to resolve the above elitist audiophile situation I find myself in. The program is dBpoweramp Batch Converter and can be found at: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/.

What I found interesting is that it actually visualized how it was multitasking my conversion process across my processor cores.

Processor Utilization

Say what you want about me having Miley Cyrus on my PC, I’ve already explained that. Instead, notice that it visualized that it was converting 4 songs simultaneously, one per core. Splitting things across the cores like this is not something new to me, but visualizing what it’s doing in this manner is a new behavior. I like it. That’s all I really wanted to post about.

THANK YOU…GOODNIGHT….:-)

my first post failed.

waves it like he just don’t care.
