Get up, stand up! Stand up for your rights!

So, I’m being a cliche’. I’m in a Starbucks and I’m blogging. I feel dirty.

Moving on…

Life has been keeping me busy as usual. Work and play both. On the home front, My kitchen is in need of a good scrub down. I never got to it’s weekly cleaning because it took me all of last week to rearrange my living room.

In regards to my living room, I’m still adjusting, but I don’t regret it at all. There’s a significant increase in my available floor space and visibility of my monitors and TV from more places. I removed the top half of my desk so that it’s less overbearing, but I haven’t found homes for everything that used to be on those shelves yet; that’s the biggest issue at the moment.

On the Cycling front, I’ve only been getting in 1 ride a week, averaging 11 miles per trip. This weekend, I’m going to try for 2 and see how that goes. As far as Fat Tire is concerned, I’m signed up for the Short & Fat and the Orienteering thing. The Telemark resort has closed, but the event is still happening. Only the the things that were inside the resort buildings have been greatly affected (they’ve been and/or are being relocated. I’m still excited, but I have no hope of being happy with my race results if I don’t step it up from the above mentioned training schedule.

My “new” bike (a year old at this point) is still going strong. That’s another decision I don’t regret. I’m approaching the 300 mile mark on the odo for the bike, which still doesn’t have a good name. I’ve come up with a couple, but they just don’t stick. I might just go with Dora2 in honor of my old bike Dora (a 2001 Trek Alpha 4300 disc). Despite it’s lack of a name, I have made some upgrades to it that I’m still adjusting to. A fender on the front wheel to keep some of the road/trail slime out of my face; this is something I’m not happy with because it won’t stay straight to the tire and I’ve tightened it in place as far as I can. A side effect of having a 29er, there were/are limited options to fender choices that will fit for sure. I’ve also made the upgrade to clipless pedals after all these years of people recommending them. So far so good, and I have only crashed once due to inability to clip-out fast enough since the day I got them (been 3 weeks or so).

On the car front, I got Blue (the MINI) stuck in some mud last night. I made a U-Turn at the end of a dead end and ended up getting the front-left tire stuch in one of those corners of Grass at the end of a driveway. You know the ones: they’ve been run over by trucks so many times, that they’re less like yard and more like quicksand. There was no damage, but I covered Blue pretty good in mud in the 3 seconds I attempted to get myself out. Turns out that it was so deep, bumper was actually touching the mud. After a touchless carwash and manual removal of the mud that got caught behind the slash gaurd, I still need to have her hand washed to remove the mud spots that didn’t wash off. Jackie and I got some good pics of it though. If I get them or she posts them anywhere, I’ll make sure to link them.

That’s all I really have to say on this cloudy but beautiful Saturday.

Auf Wiedersehen! Haben Sie ein schönes Wochenende!
